Office of Deacon

 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report,

full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

Acts 6:3

“Before they are appointed as deacons, let them be closely examined.

If they pass the test, then let them serve as deacons”.

1Tmothy 3:10

The Office of Deacon has been deeply significant throughout the history of the church according to scripture. The deacon body's central interest is the physical well-being of the church family. This office’s duties differ significantly from the tasks of the ascension gifts, whose responsibilities are expressed in programs aimed to support, nurture, teach, and direct the ministry and mission of the entire congregation. In contrast, the deacon body is concerned with and responds to the personal needs of its congregation as a part of the church's total ministry.

The tasks and roles of deacons may be found closely resembling the following assignments.  It is the Eldership at thconsiders what concrete practical acts and forms of service this office might perform that best serves the congregation in any given time and place:

The areas of service include:

• Ministry through parish program
• Ministry at baptism and assistance with new converts
• Ministry at Holy Communion
• Ministry to the poor and needy in the congregation
• Ministry to the sick and shut-ins of the congregation as well as the bereaved
